Reykjanes Peninsula is located along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates are constantly drifting apart about 2 cm (1 inch) per year. That is the reason why the peninsula is highly volcanically active and small earthquakes are not rare.

One of our stops will be the remarkable town of Grindavík, at the center of Reykjanes recent volcanic activity. Since 2021, more than 12 eruptions have transformed the landscape and left their mark on the town itself. The area now features Iceland’s youngest lava fields – raw, newly formed terrain that offers a rare chance to witness the island still being shaped in real time.
